Car Accidents
Please wear your seatbelts!!!
Do I need an attorney?
There are many accidents that do not cause serious injuries and
therefore do not require the involvement of an attorney. Cases
involving serious injuries always require legal assistance. If
you are not certain whether you have a sufficient claim, we will
help you determine if you are entitled to compensation.
Facts:
The Federal Highway Administration indicates that over 6,000,000
accidents were reported to police last year. Over 3,150,000
people were injured in these incidents and approximately 40,000
people lost their lives. In fatal crashes, 35% involved alcohol
and cell phones. Additionally, a great number of accidents
result from the use of cell phones. As cell phones, PDAs and the
internet grows more accidents are expected to result. We urge
you to use your discretion and pull to the side of the road if
using these devices may distract you.
Can I be compensated for my injuries?
Automobile accidents result in injuries that are painful and
often persist over time. If the accident was caused by the other
drivers negligence, you are entitled to compensation for your
car repair, medical expenses, lost wages and your pain and
suffering.
What should I do if I am in an
accident?
The facts surrounding an accident are important to collect to
prove the liability and damages of your claim. However, you
should insure the safety of all parties before attempting to
collect the necessary information. The more evidence that is
collected, the easier it is to settle. This information should
be provided to your attorney as soon as possible.
What steps do I take after an accident?
Notify the police. It is important to contact the police. If you
have incurred car damage or physical injury it is critical to
contact the police. The police will record the events that
occurred. This will preserve your rights in settling with the
insurance company and the other party.
Do not delay medical attention. Many people refuse medical
attention at the accident scene and postpone medical attention
for several days. Such delays in seeking medical attention are
often used against claimants in settling clams. Therefore, if
you feel pain you should obtain medical attention as soon as
possible. If you have traveled home, you should telephone and
schedule an appointment at your earliest convenience. Also, if
you do not seek immediate medical attention and travel home or
to another location, make sure that you contact a family member
or friend to look after you if have injuries, especially if you
hit your head, neck or torso. And, if you are unable to drive
yourself, contact your local police for assistance.
